Conversations with the Cosmos: A Mushroom Journey

by Anonymous Member

A moderate mushroom dose that became a conversation with the cosmos about the nature of time.

I took 3.5 grams of mushrooms in a forest on a warm autumn afternoon. I had no intention beyond 'to see what was there.' I walked slowly, sat by a stream, and let the experience unfold. The mushrooms came on gently — a brightness to the colors, a music to the sound of the water, a sense that the forest was aware of me.

The conversation began when I looked up at the sky through the canopy. I had a thought — not in words, but in a kind of direct knowing — that time was not what I thought it was. The past was not behind me. The future was not ahead. They were here, all at once, like the layers of a painting. I saw my life — all of it, past and future — as a single object, complete, like a sculpture viewed from all sides at once. I was not watching it. I was it.

The experience lasted 4 hours. I walked home slowly. The feeling of time-as-a-whole faded over the following days, but something stayed: a sense that the urgency I carry about my life is not necessary. The life is already complete. I am just walking through it. This has not made me passive — if anything, it has made me more present, because if the whole is already there, the only thing that matters is this step, this moment, this breath. The mushrooms did not tell me anything I did not already half-know. They just made it impossible to pretend I didn't.
